Things we actually use. Short list on purpose — anything that earns us a commission is labelled, and nothing is here because it pays.
returnsview shows you what happened. It deliberately doesn't chart live prices, hold your positions, or execute anything — so this page collects the tools that do the parts we left out, plus the books worth reading before you act on a heatmap.

Charting & screening
TradingView — the live chart our monthly grids aren't. If you spot something in a returns table here and want to see the intraday shape of it, this is where that happens. The free tier is genuinely usable.
Koyfin — fundamentals, estimates and macro dashboards. Useful when the question moves from “what did it return?” to “what does it earn?”, which is the one thing our data can't tell you.
Portfolio tracking
Our portfolio backtest and DCA calculator answer what a strategy would have done. Neither knows what you own. For cost basis, dividends and tax reporting on real holdings: Sharesight for listed equities and dividend tracking, or Kubera if you want crypto, property and bank accounts in one net-worth view.
Self-custody
If you hold crypto in size, hold it yourself: Ledger or Trezor.
Buy hardware wallets direct
Both links above go to the manufacturer on purpose. A hardware wallet bought through a marketplace or third-party reseller can be tampered with before it reaches you — the known failure mode is a device that arrives already set up, with a recovery phrase someone else wrote down. Buy from the manufacturer, and treat any wallet that comes with a pre-filled seed phrase as compromised.
Reading
Four books, all about the same uncomfortable idea: that most patterns in historical returns are smaller, noisier and less tradeable than they look on a heatmap. We publish the heatmaps anyway. Read these too.
- Triumph of the Optimists (affiliate link) — Dimson, Marsh & Staunton. 101 years of global returns, measured properly. The closest thing in print to what this site does on a screen.
- Stocks for the Long Run (affiliate link) — Jeremy Siegel. The long-run return record, including the seasonal and calendar effects people quote at you without the sample sizes.
- Fooled by Randomness (affiliate link) — Nassim Nicholas Taleb. The antidote to every heatmap on this site, including ours. Read it before you trade a pattern.
- A Random Walk Down Wall Street (affiliate link) — Burton Malkiel. Fifty years of people trying to beat the index, and what actually happened to them.
How this list is picked
Nothing appears here for paying us, and nothing was removed for not paying us — several links on this page earn us exactly nothing. We list a tool if it does something returnsview deliberately doesn't, and we say what that thing is so you can decide whether you need it.
